Pemerintah Indonesia telah memberlakukan penundaan lahan gambut yang ketat dan telah berkomitmen untuk membasahi kembali dan merestorasi lahan gambut yang terdegradasi. Serangkaian peraturan khusus lahan gambut telah diperkenalkan dan Badan Restorasi Gambut dan Mangrove (BRGM) yang telah dibentuk sebagai lembaga yang didedikasikan untuk meningkatkan pengendalian kebakaran berbasis masyarakat dan memulihkan lahan gambut melalui program pembasahan, revegetasi serta revitalisasi mata pencaharian yang tidak merusak lahan gambut.
