lahan gambut tropis yang sekarang didominasi oleh spesies pakis dan sedges yang invasif. Spesies yang paling cocok untuk ditanam di daerah yang dibasahi kembali adalah yang termasuk dalam flora asli hutan rawa diambil untuk revegetasi, tergantung pada tingkat degradasi hutan yang telah terjadi. Jika sisa-sisa hutan rawa gambut asli tetap ada di daerah tersebut, rehabilitasi hidrologis kadang-kadang mungkin cukup bagi hutan untuk beregenerasi secara alami, asalkan daerah tersebut dilindungi dari penebangan dan kebakaran. Kadang-kadang metode Assisted Natural Regeneration (ANR) dapat digunakan juga, seperti penyiangan. Namun, jika hanya sedikit pohon yang tersisa, penyebaran benih rendah dan kondisi lingkungan menjadi terlalu ekstrim untuk memungkinkan perkecambahan, maka pengayaan atau penanaman kembali mungkin diperlukan.<\/p><p>Sementara pembasahan kembali dapat dicapai dengan relatif cepat, revegetasi dapat memakan waktu lebih lama, tergantung pada keadaan akhir yang diinginkan, yang dapat berupa hutan yang tumbuh penuh untuk menyimpan karbon, perkebunan agroforestri yang produktif, atau kombinasi dari semuanya. Dalam semua kasus, baik revegetasi maupun dukungan regenerasi alam\/assisted natural regeneration paling baik dilakukan dengan menggunakan spesies lahan basah endemik yang beradaptasi dengan baik. Di kawasan lindung, spesies yang memiliki kepentingan ekologis pun harus dimasukkan dalam campuran spesies.
